Have you ever come across a physical challenge that, at first glance, seemed impossible? Whether due to age, injury, beliefs, or simply the passage of time, it's easy for many of us to underestimate our bodies, resigning ourselves to the fact that there are certain things we can no longer do—or have never been able to.
Recently, I stumbled upon a vitality test from Kelly Starrett's latest work on mobility and health. The challenge? "Stand to Sit” seems simple enough, right? Watch my demo of this seemingly straightforward movement; the reactions have been varied and illuminating. While some breeze through it, for others it appears as an insurmountable mountain.
Why such disparity in response? Is it age, previous injuries, or perhaps a deep-seated belief about our own capabilities? More importantly, what does our reaction to such a challenge reveal about our relationship with our bodies?
John F. Kennedy, a staunch advocate for fitness, once remarked:
"We are under-exercised as a nation. We look instead of play. We ride instead of walk. Our existence deprives us of the minimum of physical activity essential for healthy living."
His vision encompassed fitness as a lifelong pursuit, encouraging activities that families could enjoy together and fitness programs tailored for all ages.
Kennedy's words resonate even more today, in an age of technological conveniences and sedentary lifestyles. Many of us have become spectators of life, preferring the comfort of our couches over the thrill of movement and play.
The vitality test serves as a reminder and perhaps a wake-up call. Our bodies, in their innate wisdom, are designed for motion, for exploration, and for interaction with the world around us. The test is more than just a measure of physical capability; it's a barometer of our mindset, our beliefs, and our daily habits.
I challenge you, dear reader 💕 to not only attempt the test, but to also introspect on what it reveals about you. Does it inspire a desire to reclaim a more active lifestyle? Does it highlight areas of improvement? Or perhaps it brings to light limiting beliefs that have held you back?
Remember, every moment we spend in motion adds to our reservoir of health, vitality, and joy. Our bodies are a marvel, designed to move, dance, run, and play. Don't let the modern sedentary lifestyle dim your spark. Embrace Kennedy's vision, try Kelly’s vitality test, and remember: 🙌 you are built to move 🙌
Are you ready to rekindle your relationship with movement? Watch my demo, give the vitality test a go, and share your experience. Let's embark on this journey of movement and rediscovery together.
